The Corona-Norco Unified School District joins many districts throughout the state and the nation in implementing The Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The CCSS were recently adopted by the State of California and forty-four other states to replace current state standards. The Common Core State Standards are designed to provide students greater rigor and depth of learning that results in better critical thinking skills and the ability to apply what has been learned.
“As a district, we are excited about transitioning to the CCSS, in order to give students better opportunities for deeper learning and greater application. The opportunity to develop instructional activities that we know tap into the best learning avenues is a breath of fresh air for our teachers. I believe it will be a breath of fresh air for our students and their parents too said,” Dr. Witmer, a Director of Curriculum and Instruction.”
To better inform parents about this shift in education, CNUSD will be kicking-off a series a parent information nights. Parents will hear from teachers and district administrators from the curriculum and instruction department about what the CCSS entails and receive valuable information about how they can assist in their child’s academic success.
